App Store? Where Did You Go?

The app store from apple is pretty neat-o.  It let’s you download and install applications and keep them updated all with one click, just like the iTunes app store for the iPhone and iPad. Cool. I messed around with it, installed twitter and a few days later went back to do some browsing and it was gone! the icon got a big ? on it. wouldn’t run. no luck. I checked the applications folder, it’s not there! what the?! so what do you do to solve problems? you google it. I found a post on apple support where some other people lost the app store after updating to 10.6.7. I downloaded that new DMG and tried out the shareware utility Pacifist and was able to reinstall the App store. (strangely, pacifist isn’t in the app store!)

Pacifist blurb – “Pacifist 2.6.4 is a shareware application that opens Mac OS X .pkg package files, .dmg disk images, and .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, and .xar file archives and allows you to extract individual files and folders out of them. This is useful, for instance, if an application which is installed by the operating system becomes damaged and needs to be reinstalled without the hassle of reinstalling all of Mac OS X. Pacifist is also able to verify existing installations and find missing or altered files*, and Pacifist can also examine the kernel extensions installed in your system to let you see what installer installed them, and whether the installer was made by Apple or a third-party.”

App store is cool, but Pacifist came to the rescue .. one to consider buying!
