What no NTFS for OS X?

Wow, another thing that was a little surprising at first and didn’t “just work” out of the box – Apple doesn’t completely support NTFS drives! All the old external hard drives full of my important data are now read-only. A bit of a bummer since I wanted to move some of the files around and make one of them my time machine drive. I guess it does make some ssense, considering NTFS is a microsoft technology, developed for Windows NT to replace that old FAT system. Supposedly there is some support built into OS X but it isn’t turned on by default, since Apple would have to pay licensing fees or something. Here are some links to check out — I haven’t decided which route to go yet. ¬†Any suggestions? (probably i should just keep my old PC drives on my PCs.)
