Pesky iMac 1TB Seagate Hard Drive Replacement Program

Woohoo, guess what?? It looks like Apple used cheap faulty hard drives! Now you get to bring your iMac in to the local genius who will swap in a new hard drive probably from the same manufacturer. I think they should offer everyone upgrades (i would even pay a few bucks) to bigger better hard drives or faster SSDs! I guess there was a reason I haven’t knowingly bought a Seagate hard drive since the 90’s. Back up all your stuff now!

Here’s what Apples web page says about this replacement program:

“Apple has determined that certain Seagate 1TB hard drives used in 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac systems may fail. These systems were sold between October 2009 and July 2011.

Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) will replace affected hard drives free of charge.

Apple is contacting affected iMac owners who provided a valid email address during the product registration process to let them know about this program. If you have not been contacted, but think you have a 1TB Seagate hard drive, you can enter your serial number below to see if it’s part of this program.”

After spending a day at the mall with your iMac and they swap the drive you get to bring the barren iMac home and reinstall everything from scratch! Make sure you can find your OS discs before you bring in your computer!!
